All the photos in the article are taken by Anu Soikkeli on her fieldwork trips in the Inuit village Shishmaref, Alaska, in winter 2018 and autumn 2019.

The cultural vitality of northern indigenous people  has often been weakened by applying western architectural ideas to them. Anu Soikkeli is looking for more sustainable ways to carry out planning and design in the north.
